Welcome to the Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust! We are a community-led conservation-based charitable trust in the heart of Taranaki! As the kaitiaki of the beautiful Lake Rotokare and its environs, our primary focus is to achieve the highest level of restoration, protection, and enhancement of Rotokare's indigenous ecosystem.

We have a brand new walk available at Rotokare. The ridge walk enables you to see the amazing predator-proof fence up close, and also allows you to take advantage of the wonderful vistas on offer from the ridgeline. A 5 km walk around the lake is not strenuous and worth the journey with breaks taken at lookouts along the way many with seats. We were looking forward to hearing the song of the bird life but unfortunately it was constantly drowned out by jet skis and outboards towing skiers and biscuits . Rotokare, the ‘rippling lake’, is part of a peaceful and undisturbed bush reserve. It has a surface area of 17.8ha and an average depth of more than 6m.
