Internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ ID) is the most common condition that causes temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs) [ 1 ]. Reducible or non-reducible disc displacement of TMJ can result in noise or crepitus, arthritis, condyle head resorption, jaw deformities, open bite, inflammation, and joint pain [ 2 ]. The use of resorbable pins is a useful technique for disc fixation and shows medium-term improvement in clinical parameters and mandibular function. However, further studies are needed to evaluate a longer follow-up, joint morphologic changes, and disc stability on imaging. Isolated marginal facial nerve paresis after TMJ discopexy: a case report.

i’ve had tmj issues for a while now, but in december my jaw locked (i can open it ~2 fingers wide but not more) and hasn’t come unlocked since. it’s not a huge day to day issue besides eating/chewing larger things and headaches, but it does kinda suck. i was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if so, did it ever go away?

This is the first report of a transient, isolated marginal facial nerve paresis after temporomandibular joint arthrotomy. The paresis seems to have resulted from a crush lesion by Backhaus forceps, placed transcutaneously during the operation to distract the intra-articular space.
